I am having an idling problem....I get the feeling this problem has gotten slowly and progressively worse over the last 1000 miles or so.
my '72 Scout II with 345 has a hard time holding it's idle, not all the time but sometimes. I thought maybe that it was a choke issue since the weather has gotten colder out east, but not sure....I haven't driven the Scout for a few weeks now since it has become really cold.

rather than try to isolate the issue, maybe some of you have a list of things to check before diving deeper.

she runs strong under power and only occasionally is hard to start....will turn over after a few punches of the gas pedal.

any ideas?

thanks....
Eric

What have you got for vacuum leaks?
What kind of a carb are you running?

Check the casting plugs on the bottom of your intake. There should be 3 or 5 of them from what I have heard. Mine had 5. They rust out and can cause an erratic idle. It would mean pulling the intake (70lbs). Easiest done if you have an engine hoist or a chain fall. I pulled mine out without it, but had to use an engine hoist to install it.
