View Full Version : Charcoal Canister Help

Ok, so I broke the fittings off the top of my charcoal canister today and I really don't feel like forking out a couple hundred bones for a new one. What would be the long term effects of making my own?
I'm thinking a container that can be air tight, with 2 fittings on the top and the sucker filled with activated charcoal from my local pet store.
Would this work or am I just crazy?

If its sealed, i dont see why not. id say use a coffee can haha

I'm thinking more along the lines of a screw top Monster can, with the lid welded to provide a vacuum tight seal.

Thats the problem, Is I do have to pass smog now that I've moved down here to the hell hole called Las Vegas. They want all vehicles 1967 and newer to get smogged.

???????????? But Nevada is supposed to be the awesome state... cash and carry on guns and such. and your telling me.. there worse than California on smog? or is it JUST city of las Vegas?

Nevada is great, unless you live in Clark County or Washoe County...then it's hell. But the cash and carry is great and so is the open carry in every building except federal/state...don't even have to be 21 to carry a handgun, but you still have to be to buy the ammo for it

I thought about the same thing using activated charcoal from the pet store, just never tried it yet as I had several parts trucks to steal a canister from...
now the only ones left are either broke like your or cracked...
I live in Washoe county it sucks!!, especially when you own a bunch of old Binders!!

Any reason you can't repair the original canister using epoxy or something? Just in case the smog officials require an "approved" version? Maybe form a new thicker boss of epoxy where the old fitting had been, and thread it for a new brass fitting? Or even make the new boss of metal and glue it in place?
