Slow road speed

My 74 IHC 200 AWD pickup, 304, 4 speed, is very slow on the road. What would be a good way to make it a better cruiser?

What is your axle ratio? I have a '73 IH 1210 with a 4:10 ratio and can comfortably cruise at 60-65 mph. Any faster than this and it starts pushing it a bit. I have 16 inch wheels.

Can you be a bit more specific? What speed do you want, and what speed do you currently have to cruise? What rpm? Is this an rpm thing, or a handling thing, a noise thing, or something else?
