View Full Version : Can a 304 v8 fit into the old trannies

i have a 66 scout and right now it has a 196ci slant four. and im thinking about putting a 304v8 in there but will it bolt up to the original three-speed transmission?

The old style bell housings were different than the ones used in the Scout II. I think that if you look, you will find that the holes are "clocked" so that the cylinder head is at a different angle.

The other issue is that the early scouts had an engine bay that would not accommodate an SV engine. Moving of the steering column and hacking of the firewall is required.
