I have a 1980 Scout II with an SD33T and a 4speed transmission. Can anyone help me out with the type of transmission it is?

Also I'm trying to find an adapter for it to hook up to a Cummins 4BT if anyone knows if someone carries it or if it has to be custom made?

Thanks,
Michael

Transmission is a Borg-Warner T-19. If you're thinking of throwing a Cummins 4BT in your Scout, you might as well get the transmission that would come with it. It'd be cheaper and less hassle than getting an adapter. Most of the adapters are for going from an IH block to a Cheby transmission.

what is the exact trany that came with the cummins? I'm really looking for a manual trans but automatic would hurt.

Thanks Michael

The 5 speed that came with the cummins is a NV4500. Good transmission.

Is there a transfercase that would hook up to the NV4500 with no adapters?

I believe there is a mated t-case for the NV4500, but it is possible you would need to swap the tailshaft housing to use a mated transfer case. The 2wd version would be longer, and would have a yoke output. This would also be the version used for a divorced t-case. The mated case, like the Dana 300 or D20 or whatever, is probably different, and would probably use the jeep pattern instead of the IH pattern. This is actually beneficial, because the jeep pattern has upgrade paths, and the IH Dana 300 and the mated transmission can be sold for a decent price.

One of the guys in the sonoradesertscouts.com (hint) club has a 4BT in his scout. Check over there to see what else went with it.
