i found on of these motors and think i can pick up the front clip for $300-400.
there is no transmission, i'm planning on using an automatic th400 behind it. i have an adapter designed in cad for it. just not sure how i'll hook a converter between the engine and the transmission.
what type of stall converter do you think would be best?

They did come with an automatic option in the earlier years; the Chrysler TH727 3 speed auto. Don't know about the stall converter though.

i'm under the impression that it used a special adapter. is that right?

Yes, they had different bell housings than the gasoline engines. Not sure how the rest of it hooked up though; I've only ever worked on diesels with 4 speeds.

i bought the motor. i got it to turn over with some jumper cables. i grounded to the motor and touched the positive to the starter. it turned over fairly easily.
where the hell is the dip stick?
i paid $350 for the motor. it has a turbo T3. i'll be adding a larger turbo for it and upping the injection.
i have no idea how many miles are on it. hopefully the injection pump will work. guess well see what it does when i get it home.

Dipstick is on the passenger side, coming out just above the oil filter. Not very long, though.

i got it home. it took a few hours to remove. then i took it to work and used the pressure washer on steam mode. it looks pretty good. i also checked the turbo and its in good shape. spins freely without much play.
i'll probably rebuild the turbo later on. i've rebuilt a T3 before, and its not to bad. maybe i'll do a T4/T3 hybrid. not sure yet.

Officially, it's a Garrett TB310. Tiny little thing... only pushes about 6 psi. I'm in the middle of upgrading mine to a different turbo that can push a little more.
