I have a 67 Tall and am trying to plug all of the holes in my firewall. The cowl vent has been replaced with a solid piece of metal but wasn't welded on. I used silicon to seal it up and also to seal up the intentions where I think the hood to cowl seal used to be. I then took a flash light and put in the cowl area onthe cab side and looked along the cowl, on the engine side, at night to find and plug any of the minor gaps where water and wind was getting in. Even with all of this, if I left the windows down when it rains I wouldn't notice a difference in the amount of water that is inside the cab. The plan is to plug all the smaller holes with silicon until I can weld them over in the spring/summer ( when it isn't raining, which is why I want to find them all now ).
However, in my search for gaps and holes I have found areas where the clutch, brake pedals/mechanisms, etc pass through the firewall that have no grommets and the wind and rain just blow right through. I cannot find a place to buy grommets. My idea to buy bigger ones for some other application and attempt to make them fit but I would rather just have ones that where made for the job.
Any of you have experience/suggestions? Also, would installing a hood to cowl seal prevent some of the water from running down the firewall in the first place ( I was under the impression it was for engine noise )?
Thanks.
