View Full Version : 68 Scout MC & disc brakes?

I have a 1968 Scout 800 with a Spring Over Axle (SOA) conversion D44. It now has front disc brakes and my stock 1968 master cylinder has a scored cylinder bore.

I would like to upgrade the master cylinder with something a little more accessible than the old style master cylinder. I think the 1973 scout master cylinders are more available (off the shelf) than the old style and may handle the SOA conversion disc brakes a little better.

The only problem is that I think the brake fluid lines come off the opposite side, so if the holes don't match up and I have to also route the brake lines around to the other side, then I should go with something else.

Does anyone know if the holes match up so a 1973 scout MC could be bolted on the older 1968 scout?

Does anyone know of another master cylinder solution that may work for my setup?

I don't mind "frankenscout" suggestions on this one:eek:.

Thanks for your help!

This topic was covered recently over on Binderplanet IIRC. Some part numbers and good details were discussed in the thread.

73 won't help. Needs to be 75 or later. 73 had drum brakes.

starting in 74(for sure), you could get disks by special order.
IH was trying to deplete their supply of D30's so you might find a few with 30's or 44's-most came with drums unless it was a special order. I've also heard of d30's with disks around that year but don't quote me on it. I found a 74 that was willing to part its D44 with disks for my 68 800.
